What are the biggest dangers to motorcyclists?

Motorcyclists in New Jersey have plenty of dangers to deal with on the road. Unfortunately, they are more susceptible to high risk crashes. The rate of motorcycle fatalities is high as well. Several factors can lead to the increase in danger.

First, there is the size of the motorcycle compared to other vehicles. Motorcyclists are at a disadvantage because of this. Not only are they smaller, but they are also uncovered. This means the body of a vehicle will not soften any hit they take. This often leads to motorcyclists taking hits directly with their body. It is also why they often get launched off of their motorcycles. This can lead to bone breaks, concussions, and spinal damage.

Other vehicles are a huge danger to motorcyclists as well. Drivers often do not notice them due to their size. They often merge lanes or switch lanes and make right-hand turns without double-checking. Many do not think to even look for motorcyclists, and some may not notice them even when wearing safety gear.

Construction, road damage, and inclement weather are all risky as well. If proper warnings are not set out to let motorcycles know they need to take caution, it is far too easy for them to hit an obstacle. Even plates on the road that cars pass over easily can be enough to send a motorcyclist flying.

Altogether, motorcyclists face a good number of risks. If you are curious about car accidents, motorcycle crashes and other forms of motor vehicle crashes, consider viewing our web page. You can read more and learn more.
