You enjoy the work you do for your New Jersey employer, but you could downright dread the commute it takes to get to work each weekday morning. While you likely have a morning routine to make it to work, have you included safety tips for your commute to better avoid unnecessary auto accidents?

State Farm offers tips to think about regarding commute safety. Use them to arrive at work in one piece and free of injuries.

Pay attention to your shoes

Consider stashing a pair of driving shoes in your car. These shoes should have a good grip, so your foot does not slip off the pedals. Also, make sure your shoes will not catch on the floor mat, like a high heel might.

Leave at just the right time

After a while, you get a feel for how much traffic your commute involves. If you do not mind it, leave a bit earlier to see if that reduces the amount of traffic you hit. You may even want to change your route if doing so involves coming across fewer cars, which reduces your chances of ending up in an accident.

Breathe

You are not the only one trying to get to work on time during your commute. That means you may run into more than a few aggressive drivers. Besides making sure you are not one of those drivers, you should also refrain from engaging with angry motorists; you never know how they may react.

Keep out the sun

Another reason for auto accidents is blinding sunlight. Keep your windshield clean, use your car’s sun visor and invest in a quality pair of polarized sunglasses. The simple investment could keep you from becoming an auto accident victim.
